Smithfield Transport Corridor Upgrade

Building Queensland is leading the development of a Detailed Business Case for the Smithfield Transport Corridor Upgrade Project in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The Smithfield Transport Corridor is a 3.8 kilometre section of the Captain Cook Highway between Yorkeys Knob Road and McGregor Road. Anticipated future population growth in the area and the resultant increase in traffic are expected to further exacerbate existing congestion and accident rates.

The Business Case is investigating the construction of a two lane bypass road designed to:

  • improve travel time reliability for road and passenger transport users
  • reduce congestion and travel times by catering for current and future travel demand
  • improve safety
  • increase freight and heavy vehicle efficiency.

The Business Case will build on the work previously performed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, including the Preliminary Business Case, and include a detailed cost benefit analysis to assist Government in making an investment decision.

The Business Case is anticipated to be completed in mid-2017.
