The 4.9-kilometre section of the Bruce Highway between Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road intersection and Terranova Drive, north of Rockhampton, is experiencing safety and capacity issues. This section of the road serves as the national highway but also acts as the only arterial road to service the industrial, commercial and residential developments near Parkhurst.

The proposal assessed an upgrade of the road to four lanes from the Yeppoon Road Intersection through to Ramsay Creek, with signalisation at the intersections of Boundary Road (north), Olive Street and the provision of a roundabout at Stirling Drive. Other components included the construction of two service roads to facilitate movement from the industrial properties on the western side of the road corridor and duplicating the concrete bridges over Limestone and Ramsay Creeks. The realignment of Boundary Road across existing state land to accommodate the upgrading of the Boundary Road (north) Intersection and the Southern Service Road was also assessed.

The project is expected to improve capacity on the National Land Transport and Freight Networks and improve safety in the corridor.
