Proposal Stage of Development: Detailed Business Case Underway
Date of Publication: December 2016
After a period of historically high growth in prisoner population, the capacity of the state’s high-security facilities for male prisoners is constrained.
The objective of the proposal is to improve safety and reduce pressure on existing facilities. The proposed solution is to construct additional accommodation blocks at Capricornia Correctional Centre near Rockhampton to provide a 244 cell expansion to the existing 410 cell high-security facility for male prisoners. This is intended to address growth in demand for correctional facilities.
