Proposal Stage of Development: Strategic Business Case Complete
Planned Stage End Date: Not Applicable
Date of Publication: June 2017 (for period 4 December 2016 – 3 June 2017)
The Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation manages and maintains complex information systems and services that are necessary to deliver information to government and the community that in turn benefit the Queensland economy. Many of these information systems relating to science must evolve to address the need for the management of greater volumes and variety of scientific data and information products. Some of these information systems are approaching end-of-life and there is potential for rationalisation and consolidation as part of a transition strategy.
The proposal recommends a program of work to innovate, remediate and modernise Science ICT systems, data management, capture and delivery methods, improving/reforming service delivery to government and industry and promoting open and accessible data and interoperability and usability of data and systems.
The project is expected to:
- improve public services by using and sharing government science data to support evidence-based policy and program design
- deliver more efficient work practices through automation of manual processes
- improve local and global collaboration with multi-disciplinary scientific and technical communities
- increase transparency, accountability and public trust in the Queensland Government.
