Responsible Agency: Queensland Health
Proposal Stage of Development: Preliminary Business Case Underway
Planned Stage End Date: Q1 2017
Date of Publication: December 2016 (for period 4 June 2016 – 3 December 2016)

The scope and scale of services and physical infrastructure at Ipswich Hospital are insufficient to meet the future demand of the West Moreton population. Infrastructure constraints currently result in extended emergency department waiting times, emergency department overcrowding and a large number of patients travelling to other hospitals for treatment. The region also faces high rates of chronic disease, an ageing population and workforce.

The objectives of the proposal are to:

  • relieve pressure on current infrastructure by increasing onsite capacity
  • help address long wait times, improve operational and clinical performance, and achieve national treatment targets
  • deliver healthcare closer to home and improve patient outcomes.

Options to achieve these objectives are currently in development, and include repurposing existing facilities to achieve increased capacity in key areas.
