The health sector has changed considerably over the past decade and significant technological advances have been made. The Queensland Government Information and Communications Technology Audit 2012 lists the current Laboratory Information System as the third highest risk application to the state that requires an upgrade or replacement.

The proposal is investigating the delivery of a system with statewide access by Queensland pathology services, doctors, hospitals and other medical service providers.

The project is expected to deliver the following benefits:

  • modern, efficient and cost-effective pathology and forensics services
  • more collaborative and cost effective service provision
  • better patient outcomes
  • greater innovation around ‘in or near-home care’.
