Reporting period: December 2019 – June 2020
Proposal stage of development: Options analysis—completed
Responsible agency: Department of Health and Metro South Hospital and Health Service
The Redland Campus Redevelopment proposal investigates options to meet service demand of the Bayside community. The proposal is for an intensive care unit, increases in inpatient beds and theatre capacity, and integrated associated support services.
Redland Hospital is the major health centre for Redland City and Brisbane’s southern bayside suburbs, providing general medicine and surgery, cardiology, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, renal dialysis and paediatrics, as well as a range of allied health and support services.
Health service demand in the area has significantly increased over the last 10 years. There is a growing, ageing population and the geographic remoteness of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands is also contributing to health service needs in the Redland region.
In August 2019 Metro South Hospital and Health Service developed the Metro South Health Clinical Services Statement to 2027. The statement sets out projected service and infrastructure requirements across each of Metro South Hospital and Health Service facilities. The statement identified that Redland Hospital has the greatest shortfall between current capacity and projected requirement of all facilities.
The Redland Campus Redevelopment proposal seeks to expand the capability and capacity of the hospital services to meet service demand of the Bayside community.
The primary focus is to:
- establish an intensive care unit
- increase clinical capability particularly in relation to medical and surgical services
- integrate services through potential public, private partnerships.
